Jet fans for Söderleds Tunnel in Stockholm

28-08-2008:

Söderleds Tunnel is the artery of Stockholm traffic

The Söderleds Tunnel is a tunnel between the Central Bridge and Johanneshov Bridge on Södermalm Island in Stockholm and is 1520 (north-bound) and 1580 (south-bound) meters long. The tunnel itself forms the major part of Söderleden.

The tunnel was built together with the Johanneshov Bridge and opened on 9 October 1984.

The tunnel is built as two separate tunnel tubes with two lanes in each tube. Each tunnel tube is 7.25 m wide. The height is 4.5 m.

Since the opening in 1984 the tunnel has been exposed to heavy wear by all the traffic. Over four summers the tunnel will be refurbished and the repair started in 2007 and will be completed in 2011.

Novenco will deliver 50 jet fans for the two phases of the refurbishment that have been negotiated so far. The fans consist of an axial flow fan with integrated sound attenuators and are made in stainless steel AISI 316L. The order includes both unidirectional AUC and reversible ARC versions.

The jet fans have two functions. Together with the fresh-air fans and exhaust fans they ventilate the tunnels, and their purpose is also to ventilate the tunnels in case of fire.

With the delivery of the first two phases we hold good cards when it comes to winning the order for the last two phases that include another 50 jet fans to be delivered in 2009 and 2010.
